Each lesson
in the LEP program is based on an idea from Leopold's essays in
A Sand County Almanac and is used in conjunction with
some type of direct experience that correlates with the essay. Below
is an example of one lesson.
ESSAY
TITLE: "Good Oak"
Subjects: Language Arts, Botany, History
OBJECTIVES:
Students will be able to:
Take a tree
cross-section and identify some of its important structures.
Relate
the characteristics of annual growth rings to environmental conditions
present at the time of their growth.
Use this
information to determine the age of a tree and how the annual
rings are related to historical events.
