Land Ethic Leaders Program
The Land Ethic Leaders program is designed to help you use Leopold’s legacy, writing, and ideas to get people in your community exploring their personal connections to the land. The basis for the
program is Leopold’s own method of engaging his family and students in developing a personal land ethic through observing the natural world through scientific inquiry, participating in purposeful work on the land, and reflecting on their experiences. Together, these activities can bring people to a new understanding and respect for the landscape around them. And as Leopold himself said, “We can be ethical only in relation to something we can see, feel, understand , or otherwise have faith in.” In your two days at the Land Ethic Leaders training you will:
- Be immersed in Aldo Leopold’s legacy and writing
- Engage with a community of peers with a variety of backgrounds from around the country;
- Take part in and learn to lead activities based on observing the natural world, participating in service, and reflecting individually and as a group;
- Learn to lead reflective discussions based on pieces of literature or film segments to get people talking about their relationships to the land; and
- Explore, renew, and deepen your own connection to the land.
- Take home a Green Fire public screening kit, including the film and a license to screen it publically as many times as you want, and a full suite of publicity materials to help you get the word out about the screening.
