Field Trip to Mia Casita
Please join us a we explore the first home (Mia Casita) of Aldo Leopold at Tres Piedras, New Mexico. Enjoy the two hour picturesque ride by bus up to the site where Leopold began his career. Wind through history and see the land that Leopold managed, have lunch at the house he built for his new bride and learn about “Then and Now!” Discover how the changing world, landscape and techniques of management have been adapted over the years to encompass Leopold’s land ethic.
After our breakout sessions there will be a picnic lunch provided at the Leopold manor and time for an exploration of the area-then back on the bus toward the beautiful town of Taos for a quick stroll and visit in town square. Once again a beautiful ride back featuring the famous Sangre De Cristo Mountains. The bus will return once again to the Marriot where the evening festivities will kick off early evening at poolside!
Pre-Conference Workshop
Come join us as we investigate LEP’s national award winning curriculum- Exploring the Outdoors with Aldo Leopold. Participants of this workshop will engage in several hands-on activities that teach youth and families ways to connect to the outdoors. This resource is perfect for non-formal educators working with youth and families in the outdoors and very useful to the classroom teachers that are looking for new ways and ideas to get their students engaging in their environment! This is an excellent resource for chapter members to use at their youth events and scouts…just another way to earn required badges!
Attendees will receive training by two of the finest LEP coordinators in the country, as well as curriculum materials to go home with! You will also get a sneak peak at LEP’s GPS Curriculum as well! Door prizes and additional take home materials are woven in throughout your training and enjoy a picnic lunch in the beautiful New Mexico landscape as Aldo Leopold once did!
Registration is $35 and attendees will receive their educator certificate for taking the training. We look forward to meeting you and sharing these wonderful resources with you!
