Luann Waters - Oklahoma State Coordinator

Luann Sewell Waters is a conservation and environment educator with over 25 years experience teaching in workshops and seminars across the United States.

A native Oklahoman, Luann has a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology/Wildlife and a Masters of Science in Science Education, both from Oklahoma State University.

She has done TV programs, seminars and workshops on wildgame and Dutch oven cooking throughout the country, often combining information about Aldo Leopold in the process.

  • In 2009, she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oklahoma Association for Environmental Education.
  • In 2004, she was honored as Outstanding Alumnus of the Oklahoma State University Zoology Dept.
  • In 1998, she was selected as the National LEP Educator of the Year and is the State Coordinator for Oklahoma.

Professional memberships include: Outdoor Writers Association of America.

How long have you been a coordinator?

She has been state coord. of LEP in Oklahoma since 1997 and trained in LEP in 1994.

How are you using LEP?

She uses LEP in library programs, teacher in-service trainings, college credit courses, at outdoor skills training workshops such as Becoming an Outdoors-Woman and as part of journaling workshops.

What are your primary goals for the coming year?

Goals for the coming year include increasing the visability & knowledge of the program in Oklahoma and expanding the audience of users of the curriculum.

Why do you think LEP is important and how would you like to see people get involved?

LEP is important because it combines conservation education with a great piece of literature and helps get participants outdoors.
