Hands-on outdoor experiences can help create appreciation for the natural world.
No Child Left Indoors ®
PF and QF have joined the growing national movement to get kids outdoors that has been inspired in part by Richard Louv’s book Last Child in the Woods. Recognizing that we are potentially losing a generation of kids who even want to be outdoors, PF and QF have called upon its chapters; Leopold Education Project state coordinators, facilitators and educators; and partners to focus on how we can connect youth to the outdoors and also develop future conservationists who care about the land.
Revisiting Leopold’s messages and warnings from the 1940s (“The problem is how to bring about a striving for harmony with land among a people many of whom have forgotten there is any such thing as land, among whom education and culture have become almost synonymous with landlessness. This is the problem of ‘conservation education’.”), PF/QF will focus on getting youth, families and educators involved in habitat projects, outdoor skills activities and community events. The Leopold Education Project will provide curriculum, activities and ideas that will be used as part of the new initiative.
